Thank you to everyone who attended the Special General Meeting on February 26, 2026. This meeting marked the culmination of nearly a year of work focused on modernizing our bylaws, strengthening our governance structure, and ensuring our association is positioned for long-term success.
This process was led by the Organization Structure Review Committee, a dedicated group of volunteers representing various areas of our association. Over the past year, they engaged the membership through surveys, information sessions, and open communication to ensure that every member had the opportunity to understand the proposed changes and provide input. Their commitment to transparency and member involvement has been outstanding, and we are grateful for their efforts.
Quorum was met at the SGM, and members had the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarification before voting. Two key decisions were brought forward:
Board Structure: Members voted between expanding the board to 11 or 17 voting directors.
11-member board structure received 51.9% of the vote
17-member board structure received 48.1% of the vote As a result, AMHA will move forward with an 11-person Board of Directors.
Adoption of Updated Bylaws: The vote to adopt the new bylaws enabling this restructuring passed with 96.2% support, an overwhelming endorsement of the work done and the direction proposed.
These changes will take effect for the upcoming season. Members can review the new board structure and related information at www.airdriehockey.com. If you have questions about what this means for the association or the upcoming election cycle, please reach out to orgstructure@airdriehockey.com
I also want to encourage any member who is interested in contributing to the future of AMHA to consider getting involved. Our association relies on the dedication of volunteers who step forward to serve in these important roles. The new structure has created more opportunities for members to join the board. If you are curious about board service or would like to learn more, please connect with any current board member, we would be happy to speak with you.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in this process and to all who continue to support hockey in Airdrie. Our community is stronger because of your involvement.
