Beginning in U11 there are multiple streams in which U11 aged players can play, each requiring a different level of skill and dedication. This level is the first time that goalies are placed on teams based on goalie skills evaluated. For more information on the goals of U11 hockey, please refer to the Hockey Canada information. Due to ice constraints, there are capacity limitations in place at the time of registration. Once registered, AMHA does our best to ensure that each player is assigned a team.
U11 AA is the earliest entry into the Elite programming stream, run through the Airdrie Elite Hockey Committee, a sub-committee of AMHA. Players selected for this team through the Tryout process that starts in April, 2026 and is completed in early September, 2026, will require significant commitment and demonstrate skills in the top 10% of athletes. This team practices at least twice weekly, with multiple games on the weekends. Games require travel across southern Alberta, primarily. League information can be found here. Practices are solo ice for 1hr. Game duration is 2.25hrs.
U11 Competitive teams play in either the Central Alberta Hockey League (CAHL) or Rocky Mountain Female Hockey League (RMFHL). AMHA makes 4 CAHL and up to 2 RMFHL teams, depending on registration numbers. Players must demonstrate a suitable skill level during the Evaluation process, which occurs in September, 2026, and are typically in the top 50% of athletes. Teams in each league are tiered, based on skill. These teams will travel across southern Alberta (and possibly into BC) for weekend games. Each team will have 2 weekday practices plus an additional goalie development session. Practices are shared ice for 1hr. Game duration is 90 minutes.
U11 Community teams play in the Rockies Hockey League (RHL), where teams are tiered based on skill. AMHA makes as many RHL teams as ice availability dictates, to ensure that all U11 players have a team. Placement is determined through the Evaluation process, which occurs in September, 2026. Teams in this league are parity in two tiers, based on skill. These teams will travel to nearby communities (Canmore, Cochrane, etc) for a weekend game. Each team will have 2 weekday practices plus an additional goalie development session. Practices are shared ice for 1hr. Game duration is 90 minutes.
Familiarize yourself with Evaluation Expectations.
At U11, non-goalie players are evaluated with no regard for positioning, as per the Hockey Alberta U11 Pathway. This makes Evaluations more difficult for evaluators, so players are broken into smaller groups.
